Rock Pipit, Anthus petrosus

£75.00

Restless forager of seaweed stacks and rock jumbles, the Rock Pipit is an often overlooked wild citizen of coastal areas. Larger than a Sparrow and smaller than a Starling, it furtively slips and darts around the pebbles and tideline picking up sea slaters, sand hoppers, molluscs and the spilled crumbs from daytrippers picnics.

In Spring, look for the males as they tower to the sky and then float down like small paper planes on outstretched wings, tail out, pouring with song as they descend back to earth.

Quite often the bird will seemingly fly straight into rock and disappear – usually to a nest cup of dried grasses, leaves and seaweed, often lined with animal hair.

This is a Giclée reproduction of an original graphite pencil drawing, printed on archival grade, professional Hahnemule Photorag 300gsm paper. It is supplied without mount or frame. Framed prints can be arranged at extra cost, please contact the studio to discuss any requirements.
